Information notices
The network configuration of SCRATCH SCC of the HPC clusters (mounted at /scratch-scc) will be changed to a higher performing configuration at 17:00 - 19:00 on Thursday, July 17.
This will cause two temporary hiccups in the filesystem. Ideally, this will be 2 minutes each if the change can be successfully done in-place. There is a decent chance that the change will require the two storage nodes to be rebooted in which case each hiccup will be about 20 minutes.
On the off chance that the...
Our account portal at https://id.academiccloud.de is now available in a new design. The user interface is visually modelled on the Academic Cloud and offers a modern, uniform appearance with a clear structure and improved usability.
The aim of the changeover is to significantly improve user guidance - especially when registering for multi-factor authentication (MFA) - and to create a consistent design across different services. At the same time, the portal was technically converted to a...
Discontinuation of Rocket.Chat, further extended End-of-Life phase
With Nov 1st, 2024 the service Rocket.Chat entered its end-of-life phase. Users of Rocket.Chat should act now (see below).
What changes during the end-of-life phase?
GWDG has stopped renewing the licensing of the service. With the expiration of the license some functionality of Rocket.Chat may be limited in the future. The most prominent limitations are:
- no more push notifications to mobile clients
- online presence...
Launch of the Matrix service
After the replacement of RocketChat with Matrix was announced and prepared in the last weeks and months, the Matrix service is now available for all GWDG customers.
Comprehensive information on how to use Matrix can be found at https://docs.chat.academiccloud.de/.
Why Matrix?
The goal of the transition was to continue offering a central, simple, widely accessible, and modern communication tool. Matrix offers various advantages in this regard. For example, the...

Scheduled maintenances
We plan to update the Slurm version on the EMMY cluster from version 24.11.4 to version 25.05.1 on July 17, 2025 between 17:00 and 19:00. During this period, Slurm’s interactive programs (sinfo, sacct, srun, sbatch, etc.) will be unavailable for a few minutes and new jobs will not be accepted or started. Jobs already running will not be affected.
The network config of the storage nodes providing SCRATCH SCC (/scratch-scc on the HPC nodes) will be changed to its previous higher performing configuration it had used for years. This will cause 2 temporary hiccups to SCRATCH SCC as the configuration is changed on each node. Ideally, the two hiccups will be 1-2 minutes each, but could be 20 minutes each if the nodes must be rebooted.
