The SCC compute and login nodes will be migrated to new images (for most, this is an upgrade from Scientific Linux 7 to Rocky Linux 8) and a new netboot server. The login node gwdu102 will migrate first on October 30. Then the compute nodes in the medium, fat, and fat+ partitions will migrate (nominally October 30). Then the compute nodes in the gpu partition will migrate (nominally November 1). Then the compute nodes in the gpu-int, vis, and sgiz partitions will migrate (nominally November 4). Finally, the login node gwdu101 will migrate last on November 4.

Unless there are problems, login nodes will need 30-60 minutes to migrate and compute nodes 20-60 minutes. The one exception are the dge[008-012] nodes in the viz and gpu-int partitions which will be down for up to a few hours for migration.

Existing user codes compiled for the old SL7 images may break on the new Rocky 8 images and require recompilation. Codes that had previously used many system libraries during compilation may need to compile against libraries from the module system instead when they are next recompiled.
