Firmware upgrade for central NetApp mass storage systems from 2024-11-28 17:00 CET to 2024-11-28 21:00 CET

This maintenance is now starting as planned.

On Thursday, November 28, 2024, a firmware upgrade will be performed on the GWDG’s central NetApp mass storage systems during the maintenance window starting at 5:00 pm. These are core components of the GWDG mass storage infrastructure on which almost all applications and services depend directly or indirectly (GWDG ESX environment, university group drives, student home directories, university administration file areas, various other services). The NetApp MetroCluster is not affected. The main aim of the upgrade is to enable the subsequent migrations to the new NetApp systems from mid-December.

The upgrades will be carried out during operation by means of several swings of the functions between the redundant units of the systems. These are largely transparent for clients. There may be a brief increase in latency when accessing the mass storage. No impairments are to be expected, provided no unexpected problems occur.
