Failure: Remote desktop server WinTS1, WinTS5 and vcenter.rds.gwdg.de not accessible
Updates
The replacement system for the Remote Desktop Server GWD-WinTS1 will be released on Thursday, 06.02.2025, in the maintenance window at around 6 pm. For this server, too, only browser-based access secured with multi-factor authentication will be provided.
To avoid confusion, the documentation [1] will be updated with the relevant information shortly beforehand.
Replacement systems will be available for the GWD-WinTS5 and GWD-WinTS8 terminal servers (vcenter.rds.gwdg.de) from today, 20.12.2024. As attacks on the servers must still be expected, the replacement systems will only be made available via a new, multi-factor authentication secured route. Access is now only possible browser-based via https://remote-sec.gwdg.de.
The new access method is explained in our documentation at https://docs.gwdg.de/doku.php?id=de:services:server_services:compute_server:windows_terminal_server#windows_remote_desktop_server.
Unfortunately, a replacement system for the GWD-WinTS1 terminal server will not be available until January 2025, as further preparations are required to make it available.
A new concept for the replacement systems has been drawn up and implementation is underway. The planned order of deployment is
- Wints8 (vcenter.rds.gwdg.de)
- Wints5
- Wints1
We expect to be able to provide all services by 20.12.24.
The recommissioning of the terminal servers is in preparation. The sequence will be
- Wints8 (vcenter.rds.gwdg.de)
- Wints5
-
Wints1
We will inform you here as soon as the terminal services are available again and ask for a little patience.
GWD-WinTS5 and the VCenter remote desktop server vcenter.rds.gwdg.de are also affected by the problem.
We would like to inform you that there is currently a fault with the above service. This may lead to disruptions in use. Our team is working hard to resolve the problem.
Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to predict when the service will be fully available again. However, we will keep you up to date and inform you as soon as the service is available again as usual.
