Sicherheitslücke in VMware Tools für Windows from 2025-07-15 00:00 CEST to 2025-07-30 00:00 CEST

Affected: All Windows VMs of the GWDG VMware environment

VMware has announced a security vulnerability in the VMware Tools. In our opinion, the
security vulnerability is relatively serious, so we
recommend installing the VMware Tools updates on Windows VMs as soon as possible.
According to VMware, the version currently available in
the vCenter has been fixed.

Tools version: VMware Tools (installed via vSphere WebClient)
OS: Windows
Version: 12451 (12.5.3)

IMPORTANT: The VM must be restarted after the installation / update.

If you have the automatic update enabled, you may encounter “Error upgrading VMware Tools.
vix error code = 21009”. In that case, please power off the VM. On powering the VM back on, the installation should start automatically (Please check version afterwards).
