Updates
New service: CoCal & instructions for importing LaTeX documents
The CoCalc service is now available for general use: https://cocalc.gwdg.de
The service provides a toolbox for working with LaTeX and Markdown documents, executing code in Python and Julia, and working with Jupyter Notebooks and a dedicated JupyterLab server.
Instructions & Documentation
General and comprehensive documentation is available from the developers of CoCalc:
- Getting Started: https://doc.cocalc.com/getting-started.html (Note: Licensing information can be disregarded. The software is licensed by GWDG for its users)
- How-tos: https://doc.cocalc.com/howto/index.html
- Additional information from GWDG: https://docs.gwdg.de/doku.php?id=de:services:application_services:cocalc:start
Working with LaTeX
CoCal comes with its own LaTeX editor, allows you to customize the LaTeX environment and can be integrated with other data in the environment.
A guide is available that describes the steps for exporting from Overleaf (ShareLaTeX) and importing into CoCalc:
Working with Jupyter Notebooks
CoCalc can start Jupyter Notebooks directly by clicking on a notebook file in the file overview.
Alternatively, a separate JupyterLab server can be started (via “Servers” in the menu on the left), which makes it possible to work with a JupyterLab environment, as users know it from JupyterCloud.
More about this in the How-tos:
Note: existing preview instance
CoCalc was previously available as a preview instance of the service.
In accordance with the original announcement, the preview instance will be retained. The corresponding restrictions still apply and the use of the main service is generally recommended.
The preview instance will be retained so that users can try out functions and carry out tests there, and so that GWDG can test changes and updates to the service there.
