Information notice Information: Data center closed on 20.11.2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon due to works meeting

Due to a staff meeting, the computer center will be closed during this period; the GWDG hotline at 0551 39-30000 will also not be available. Secretariat, user areas and printers are not accessible, telephone calls will not be accepted during this time. For inquiries, please use the ticket system by e-mail to support@gwdg.de.

Information notice Deletion of tokens for multi-factor authentication (MFA)

[Information]

In the period from 27.10.2025 00:00 to 05.11.2025 09:00, tokens for multi-factor authentication could no longer be removed by the institute administrators for certain user groups. The problem has now been resolved.

Information notice WSUS: Release of the upgrade to Windows 11 24h2 for all Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers

[Information]

At the end of mainstream support for Windows 10 and older versions of Windows 11, we will release the upgrade to Windows 11 24h2 for all Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers in the regular WSUS target groups on 14 October 2025.

All compatible Windows 10 computers (except LTSC) will then install the in-place upgrade to Windows 11. An installed ESU licence for extended support does not prevent the upgrade. Computers that do not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11 will not receive the...

The function update 24h2 for Windows 11 will be released for all WSUS target groups on 14.10.25 at 10 am.

Information notice Release of the in-place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11

[Information]

On 10/24/2015 at 10am, the in-place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will be released to all regular WSUS audiences. All compatible Windows 10 computers using our WSUS service will begin downloading the upgrade in the following hours. A reboot will be required for installation. An opt-out is possible via the WSUS target group “Win10”.

Information notice GWDG Rocket.Chat has been discontinued

[Information]

Since 2017 and until its discontinuation Rocket.Chat has served 40.045 users, in 141.822 channels (127.575 private) with 32.799.084 messages (26.607.554 private).

During its operational time the service ran on GWDG’S regular infrastructure, which is also available for GWDG’s customers, without specific configuration for increased high availability or performance.

Information notice Error in the macOS ownCloud client (version 6)

[Information]

With the current update of the ownCloud client to version 6, a bug has been discovered on macOS systems. This bug causes files with umlauts in their file names to be deleted during synchronization.

This bug only affects the client for macOS. Windows and Linux clients are not affected. This is not a problem on our end, but rather a bug in the ownCloud software itself. We have already reported the problem to ownCloud, but are currently unable to fix the cause ourselves.

Information notice End of Legacy SCC Usernames on HPC

[Information]

Legacy SCC usernames will no longer be able to use the HPC login and compute nodes starting in 2026. The GWDG Unix HOMEs and Tape Archive (AHOME) will no longer be accessible from the SCC Legacy island. SCC users that have not done so yet need to migrate to project-specific usernames (of the form u12345) via the HPC Project Portal.

Legacy SCC usernames are directly activated Uni Göttingen, UMG, MPG, and DPZ usernames that usually contain a part of the users first or last name. Their HOME...

Legacy HLRN/NHR usernames will no longer be able to use the HPC login and compute nodes and unmigrated legacy HLRN/NHR projects will not longer work starting in 2026. NHR users that have not done so yet need to migrate to project-specific usernames (of the form u12345) via the HPC Project Portal. Login with legacy HLRN/NHR usernames will no longer be possible.

Information notice Opening hours of the data center around Christmas and New Year 2024/2025

The GWDG data center will be closed on the days from 24.12.2024 to 01.01.2025. On 23.12.2024 the data center is only open from 10:00 to 18:00.
